The Sound of Hope International Music Festival

The SHIMF support students with stage performance opportunities to encourage study of music enrich their spirit. It is categorized by classical music divisions and the Christian music divisions.

Eligibility: SOHIMF is open to students age 4-18, as of March 11, 2018

 Rules and Regulation

Each participant must submit a copy of a proof of age document.

Age placement is determined by the contestants’ age on March 11.

Appilacation form must be download and print online at www.hopemusicschool.com/festival. Mail a check of $50.00 registration fee and a copy of your birth certificate and the application form to 17506 Alva Rd. San Diego Ca92127. Make the check payable to Hope Music Foundation by March 1st postmark. The registration fee is only accepted by mailing a check.

All pieces must be performed from memory except Ensemble division

Contestants may enter multiple categories, in that case, applicants must complete separate applications and pay the required fee for each division. Application fee for ensemble should be paid by per person.

Applicants are responsible for arranging for their own pianists.

No warm up room is provided.

First place winners may not enter the same or a lower category the year following their first place win.

Schedule request will not be accepted.

Late entries may be accommodated for an additional $10 processing fee for each contestant.

Contestants must check-in at the competition venue no later than 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Latecomers may be disqualified.

Competitors must provide original scores for the adjudicators at the time of performance (No photocopies).

Each candidate will be judged by the highest artistic standards in regard to musicianship, technical proficiency, selection of repertoire, stage presence and artistry.

Each Division will be divided by groups, each group will have maximum of 6 contestants, each group will be awarded 1st, 2nd ,3rd Place and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
The SOHIMF judges reserves the right to alter the finalist selection and also the right to withhold granting a division prize should there be a lack of a suitable candidate. All judgments are finial.  

Formal attire is required for preliminary audition and final performance.

Finalist must be available to perform live for the adjudication panel on March 11st, 2018.

Beginner division is for students only learn the instrument within one year of private lesson with a private teacher signed verification letter to prove it.

Repertoire requirements

Classical music Divisions:

Solo Piano: Two complete works from contrasting style and period.

Single movement from Sonata (Sonatina) or work, single dance movement from Suite or Partita by Bach is considered as one work. A set of Prelude and Fugue from Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach is considered as one work).

Piano Prodigy I and the Piano Beginner Division: One work from the major music period.

Solo Strings: One work from Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary music. period

Ensemble: One complete movement or piece from major work.

Christian music Divisions:

One published Christian music work written at any music period for your chosen division’s genre.
