Ms. Sharon Liou

Ms. Sharon Liou was born in Taiwan and has been playing cello since she was 10. She earned her bachelor degree in music from National Taiwan Normal University and Master degree in cello performance from University of Southern California. During her study in Taiwan, she won multiple awards including 1st place in the Cello Concerto Competition held by the Taipei City Symphony Orchestra and earned the ICRT Young Musician Scholarship. At USC, she was deeply inspired by her teacher, Ms. Eleanore Schoenfeld, a prestigious cellist, and received the Outstanding Chamber Music Award.

Ms. Sharon Liou has worked with the National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in Michigan. Additionally, she has been invited by many other orchestras in the U.S. and Taiwan. She is currently a member of MTAC and has been teaching for more than 30 years. Full of passion and patience, Ms. Sharon Liou helps students not only improve their skills and techniques but also enjoy the music they play. Her students have excelled in the Certificate of Merit program including Panel auditions; they have also won top prizes at different competitions including 1st place at VOCE state finals competition, Pelican International Music Competition, and American Protégés.

In addition to school orchestras, many of Ms. Sharon’s students participate in San Diego Youth Symphony Orchestra, with some holding leadership positions. Sharon Liou currently lives with her family in San Diego. Besides teaching cello, she deeply devotes herself to her family and the music ministry in church.
